Washington LW Ovechkin OK after collision

Jan 28, 2009 - 10:17 PM WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Washington Capitals All-Star left wing Alex Ovechkin says he is OK following a scary collision in Tuesday's loss to Boston.

Ovechkin suffered a stinger when he slid into the boards with 5:25 left in the second period, but returned at the start of the third.

Ovechkin, who is tied for second in the league with 60 points, was skating down the right wing against Bruins All-Star defenseman Zdeno Chara with 5:25 remaining in the second, when he was hooked before losing his footing and crashing into the boards in the corner.

The Russian stayed down on the ice for a few minutes before walking to the locker room under his own power, visibly upset while stretching his right arm.

"It was just a hockey moment - it is OK," Ovechkin told the Washington Post.

"As far as I know (he's OK)," Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau told Post. "He's a pretty tough kid."

In 47 games this season, the reigning Hart Trophy winner has registered 31 goals and 29 assists.
