Canadiens D Gorges out vs. Bruins

Feb 1, 2009 - 8:29 PM MONTREAL (Ticker) -- Montreal Canadiens defenseman Josh Gorges is out for Sunday's game against the Boston Bruins after suffering a head injury the previous night.

Gorges absorbed a hard hit as Los Angeles Kings defenseman Denis Gauthier received a game misconduct for delivering an elbow to the head in Montreal's 4-3 win on Saturday.

Kings coach Terry Murray did not think it was a dirty hit, but Gorges was bleeding from his nose.

"Gauthier is coming up to get a hit, kind of leading with his shoulder," Murray said after the game. "Gorges is a little bit low on it. I'd have to see it again, but it probably looks like he might have left his feet. But I don't know if there was some momentum."

Gorges returned after heading to the locker room, but looked groggy on the ice and took himself out of the game at the start of the third period.

The 27-year-old Gorges has recorded two goals and 10 assists in 29 games this season.

A native of Kelowna, British Columbia, Gorges has collected three tallies and 31 points in 214 contests with the San Jose Sharks and Canadiens over his five-year career.
