NHL honors Devils RW Langenbrunner
Feb 2, 2009 - 7:21 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- New York Devils right wing Jamie Langenbrunner on Monday was named the NHL's "First Star" for the month of January.Langenbrunner scored 17 points on nine goals and eight assists - the league's third-highest total during the month - as the Devils went 11-3-0 to take over first place in the Atlantic Division.
Last week, Langenbrunner scored the game-winners in three straight games, including overtime goals against Boston and Pittsburgh. The Devils have won eight straight contests.
Anaheim Ducks defenseman Scott Niedermayer, who also scored 17 points to lead all blueliners in January, was named the "Second Star" of the month. Neidermayer ranks fifth among defensemen in scoring with 36 points.
Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller earned the "Third Star" award after leading all goaltenders in wins with nine. He posted a 9-3-0 record with a 2.30 goals-against average and .932 save percentage as the Sabres climbed to seventh in the Eastern Conference.
