Bruins RW Ryder injured

Feb 6, 2009 - 4:13 AM OTTAWA (Ticker) -- Boston Bruins right wing Michael Ryder was injured late in the third period of Thursday's 4-3 shootout victory over the Ottawa Senators and did not return.

With 5:06 remaining in the third, Ryder was high-sticked in the face by Ottawa's Antoine Vermette. The 28-year-old was bleeding from a gash and retreated to the locker room for repairs.

Boston scored the tying goal on the ensuing power play and went on to post their fourth straight win in the shootout.

Bruins coach Claude Julien did not believe Ryder would miss any additional time.

"He's got quite a few stitches along the nose and by the eye," Julien said. "I think he'll be back right away. He didn't come back (in this game) because he wasn't ready and he was sick for a while. I didn't think it was ever the right time to send him back in."

Ryder recorded an assist in 14 minutes, 14 seconds of ice time before departing.

In 52 games this season, his first with Boston, the 6-foot, 186-pound native of Bonavista, Newfoundland has registered 19 goals and 17 assists. An eighth-round pick of Montreal in 1998, Ryder has collected 118 tallies and 243 points in 366 career contests with the Canadiens and Bruins.
