Red Wings RW Franzen hurts hand vs. Oilers

Feb 8, 2009 - 12:44 AM DETROIT (Ticker) -- Detroit Red Wings right wing Johan Franzen left Saturday's 8-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in the first period with a hand injury and did not return.

Franzen did not record a shot in 3 minutes, 43 seconds of ice time before departing.

"We sent 'Mule' over (to the hospital) for a CAT scan and another X-ray," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "We X-rayed him here, and there was no break in the hand."

A native of Vetlanda, Sweden, Franzen has notched 22 goals and 12 assists in 46 games this season.

Franzen set a franchise record with 13 goals in the postseason during Detroit's run to the Stanley Cup championship last season.

Selected in the third round of the 2004 draft, the 29-year-old has collected 71 tallies and 118 points in 267 contests over his four-year career with the Red Wings.
