Kings G Quick named NHL's First Star

Feb 9, 2009 - 6:20 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- After posting three consecutive road victories, Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick on Monday was named the NHL's "First Star" of the week.

Quick stopped 95 of 100 shots last week, lifting the Kings within three points of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

For the season, Quick is 10-6-0 with a 2.38 goals-against average and .920 save percentage in 18 games.

Detroit Red Wings right wing Marian Hossa shared the NHL scoring lead last week with six goals and one assist to earn the "Second Star" honor.

Hossa closed the week by reaching the 30-goal mark for the seventh time in the past eight seasons by scoring a key third-period goal in Sunday's 3-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green earned "Third Star" status for the second consecutive week after posting four goals and three assists, becoming the first NHL defenseman in nearly 25 years to score a goal in six consecutive games.
