Bruins RW Ryder out 2-3 weeks

Feb 10, 2009 - 4:49 PM BOSTON (Ticker) -- Boston Bruins right wing Michael Ryder will be sidelined for two to three weeks after undergoing orbital surgery.

Ryder, who suffered a small fracture in the nose and eye area when he took a high stick to his face during Thursday's 4-3 shootout win in Ottawa, had the procedure performed Monday.

"(Michael) had three small fractures in the bridge of the nose, around the orbital," Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli said. "He's recovering. The surgery was successful. He had three plates put in and he's home right now."

The Bruins expect that Ryder will be able to resume stationary bike work in two or three days.

Tied for third on the team in goals with 19, Ryder is Boston's fifth-leading scorer with 36 points in 52 games. He did not play in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.
