Devils LW Parise named NHL's 'First Star'
Feb 16, 2009 - 5:44 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- New Jersey Devils left wing Zach Parise on Monday was named the NHL's "First Star" of the Week after pacing the league in scoring with eight points.Parise, who recorded four goals and four assists, helped the Atlantic Division-leading Devils to a 4-0-0 week. He has climbed into a tie for second in the NHL in goals with a career-high 34 and ranks fifth in the scoring race with 69 points.
Calgary Flames center Matthew Lombardi, who recorded three goals and four assists in a 3-0-1 week, earned the "Second Star" award.
Atlanta Thrashers left wing Ilya Kovalchuk was named the "Third Star" after leading all players in goals with five, including his 11th career hat trick in Sunday's 8-4 win over Anaheim. Kovalchuk extended his goal-scoring streak to four games.
