Flyers C Richards named 'First Star'

Feb 23, 2009 - 6:34 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Philadelphia Flyers shorthanded specialist Mike Richards on Monday was named the NHL's "First Star" after leading the league in scoring last week with eight points.

Richards registered three goals and five assists in just two games, recording a career-high five points in a 6-3 win over Buffalo. The center had three points in Saturday's 5-4 loss to Pittsburgh, including his league-high seventh shorthanded goal of the season.

Florida Panthers goaltender Tomas Vokoun earned the "Second Star" award after recording two shutouts and stopping 115 of 118 shots in three games. He concluded the week by making 41 saves in Saturday's 2-0 win over Boston, his sixth shutout of the campaign.

The "Third Star" honor went to Chicago goaltender Cristobal Huet, who backstopped the Blackhawks to a 3-1 week. Filling in for the injured Nikolai Khabibulin, Huet stopped 31 shots in a 4-0 victory over Florida for his third shutout of the season.
