Brodeur, Iginla honored by NHL

Mar 2, 2009 - 5:28 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- After making a triumphant return following a four-month absence, New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur on Monday was named the NHL's "First Star" of the Week.

Brodeur recorded shutouts in two of his first three starts after missing 50 contests due to elbow surgery. He capped the week by recording his 100th career shutout in Sunday's 3-0 win over Philadelphia.

Brodeur increased his wins total to 547, leaving him just four shy of Patrick Roy's NHL record.

Calgary Flames right wing Jarome Iginla, who became the franchise's all-time leading scorer, earned the "Second Star" honor.

Iginla paced the league in scoring with four goals - including the 400th of his career - and

six assists in three games. He recorded his second five-point game of the season in Sunday's 8-6 loss to Tampa Bay to surpass Theo Fleury as the Flames' top scorer with 834 points.

Atlanta Thrashers left wing Ilya Kovalchuk earned the "Third Star" honor after recording four goals and four assists in three contests.
