Capitals' Ovechkin leaves practice with injury

Mar 4, 2009 - 5:21 PM ARLINGTON, Virginia (Ticker) -- Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin left Wednesday's practice in pain after taking a slap shot off his right foot.

An angry Ovechkin limped to the bench, took off his skates and was helped to the dressing room by a team trainer.

A Capitals spokesman told reporters that the injury is not believed to be serious. But Ovechkin did not react well upon leaving the ice, smashing a stick as he walked to the locker room.

Ovechkin scored his league-high 46th goal of the season in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Florida Panthers.
