Islanders sign Weight to extension
Apr 7, 2009 - 4:25 PM UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- The New York Islanders on Tuesday signed center Doug Weight to a one-year contract extension.Financial terms were not disclosed.
In his first season with the Islanders, Weight has registered nine goals and 35 points in 49 games. He originally signed with the team on July 2.
"Long Island has been a wonderful place for me and my family," Weight said. "It was an easy decision to come back for another season. The Islanders have been a first-class organization and I'm looking forward to helping our team continue its development into a contender."
A four-time All-Star, the 40-year-old Weight has collected 1,004 points (274 goals, 730 assists) in 1,180 career games.
