Blue Jackets G Mason among Calder finalists
Apr 22, 2009 - 9:37 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Goaltender Steve Mason, who helped lead the Columbus Blue Jackets to their first playoff appearance in franchise history, on Wednesday was named one of three finalists for the Calder Trophy.Anaheim right wing Bobby Ryan and Chicago left wing Kris Versteeg also were announced as nominees for the league's rookie of the year award.
Mason, taken in the third round by the Blue Jackets in 2006, led the NHL with 10 shutouts and ranked second with a 2.29 goals-against average
Ryan, the second pick in the 2005 draft, recorded 31 goals and 57 points, tops among first-year players.
Versteeg, a fifth-round choice of the Boston Bruins in 2004, led all rookies with 31 assists while finishing second to Ryan with 53 points.
