Monza extends Formula One rights to 2016

Mar 19, 2010 - 2:17 PM MONZA, Italy(AP) -- Italy's Monza circuit will stage grand prix races until 2016 after Formula One rights holder Bernie Ecclestone agreed a contract extension with the venue.

Monza has hosted races since 1922 but its place in the race calendar was threatened by a proposed race around the streets of Rome.

An existing deal to host the Italian Grand Prix was to end in 2012.
