Italy push back Tedesco, Wakeman hearing
Nov 2, 2017 - 6:09 AM James Tedesco and Shannon Wakeman's meeting with an Italian disciplinary hearing has been postponed, as team officials await the findings of an independent Rugby League World Cup investigation. The President of the Federation of Italian Rugby League, Orazio D'arro, said on Tuesday the pair would face an internal review committee the next day after reports emerged Tedesco had been king-hit by his teammate.
However, it's understood that meeting was pushed back by team officials, after the NRL's chief integrity unit investigator Karyn Murphy opened up her own probe into the matter.
"The investigation by the integrity unit is continuing. There is no timeline on when it will be finished," the tournament said on Thursday in a statement.
Tedesco has since claimed he and Wakeman have moved on from the matter. The incident reportedly led to other players jumping in to attempt to settle the issue on Sunday at a Cairns nightspot.
Both players are training to play in Sunday's second-round World Cup clash with the USA in Townsville. Initial reports had suggested they would each be fined $10,000 by team hierarchy over the matter.
However any team-imposed penalty must leave Murphy and the tournament's integrity unit satisfied that it is appropriate before they sign off on it.
A decision is expected before Sunday's match.
