Schalke signs Brazilian defender Gustavo
Dec 18, 2006 - 9:36 PM GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany (Ticker) - Schalke took a step toward a run at the Bundesliga title on Monday by agreeing a deal for Brazilian defender Gustavo.The 24-year-old has agreed a 2 1/2 year contract and will officially complete the move from Brazilian side Parana Clube on January 1.
"We are happy that he has chosen us," Schalke general manager Andreas Muller said. "Gustavo has a lot of potential, is very athletic and strong in the air."
Schalke finished the first half of the Bundesliga season in second place, tied on points with leaders Werder Bremen.
