Rober named new coach of Borussia Dortmund

Dec 19, 2006 - 7:38 PM DORTMUND, Germany (Ticker) - Borussia Dortmund have named Jurgen Rober as their coach until the end of the season following the dismissal of Bert van Marwijk on Monday.

The former Stuttgart and Wolfsburg coach will take charge until July 1 when Arminia Bielefeld boss Thomas von Heesen is expected to take over the reins on a permanent basis.

Rober, 52, has been out of work since being fired by Partizan Belgrade in May and insists he is not worried that his role at the Westfalen Stadium is only temporary.

"The important thing is that BVB is a wonderful club and I am not wasting any thoughts on July 1," Rober said. "It's great to be back in Germany."

With Dortmund sitting in ninth place in the Bundesliga standings, eleven points behind a Champions League berth, Rober will have his work cut out to restore some pride to the fallen German giants.

But he admits that he will try and bring his own brand of fantasy football to the club for the remainder of the Bundesliga campaign.

"We need to show what people want to see," he said. "I am a fan of attacking football, and I will try and put that into motion here. The fans will get back behind us if they see us working our socks off again."
