AZ beat Willem II 2-1 to move atop Dutch league
Aug 29, 2009 - 9:15 PM AMSTERDAM(AP) -- Hector Moreno and Brett Holman scored for AZ Alkmaar to beat Willem II 2-1 and move atop the Dutch league on Saturday.Sergio Zijler grabbed the lone goal for Willem 11 in the 23rd minute.
AZ leads the standings with 12 points, two more than Feyenoord and FC Twente, who meet on Sunday.
Also, VVV-Venlo maintained its unbeaten run by holding NEC Nijmegen 1-1 for its fifth straight draw. Japan midfielder Keisuke Honda set up Sandro Calabro for the opening goal in the 30th minute before Ramon Zomer equalized for NEC six minutes after the break.
FC Utrecht downed Sparta Rotterdam 2-0 with goals from Jacob Lensky and Gregoor van Dijk.
On Friday, Roda JC lost 4-3 against Vitesse Arnhem while ADO The Hague beat RKC Waalwijk 2-0.
On Sunday, it's: NAC Nijmegen vs. SC Heerenveen; FC Groningen vs. PSV Eindhoven, and Heracles Almelo vs. Ajax.
