Red Bulls sign Estonian midfielder Joel Lindpere
Mar 5, 2010 - 10:29 PM SECAUCUS, N.J.(AP) -- The New York Red Bulls have signed veteran Estonian midfielder Joel Lindpere (JOLE lind-PEAR).The Major League Soccer team said Friday that he will be added to the roster pending receipt of his international transfer certificate.
Lindpere played the past three seasons with Tromso IL in Norway, where he made 75 appearances and scored five goals. The 28-year-old has played most of his professional career in Estonia.
After making his international debut in 1999, Lindpere has been a stalwart for the Estonian National Team, earning 74 caps and scoring six goals. Lindpere has been training with the Red Bulls for the past two weeks.
"Joel is an experienced midfielder who can play in many different positions," Red Bulls general manager Erik Soler said. "We have watched him play for a long period of time and we are confident that he will be able to adjust to the MLS game."
