Liverpool 0, Wigan Athletic FC 1
Mar 8, 2010 - 10:20 PM By GEOFF McALLISTER STATS European Football Writer=LONDON (SE) - A first-half Hugo Rodallega strike heaped yet more pressure on Rafa Benitez and secured Wigan's first win over Liverpool in the club's history.
Colombia striker Rodallega grabbed the game's only goal on 35 minutes, volleying home neatly from an Emmerson Boyce cross.
Fernando Torres spurned four clear-cut chances to get the Reds back into the game in the second half, but Roberto Martinez's side held on for a deserved victory.
The defeat leaves Liverpool's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League in tatters but sees Wigan move four points clear of the relegation zone.
