Heavy rain, wind force Red Bulls postponement
Mar 13, 2010 - 3:30 PM HARRISON, N.J.(AP) -- The soft opening of the new Red Bulls Arena has been postponed. The New York Red Bulls announced Saturday that heavy rain and high wind caused it to postpone a game between its Under-18 Academy team and the United States Under-17 Men's National Team.
Red Bulls managing director Erik Stover said the inclement weather made it dangerous for players and fans. The match will be rescheduled.
The Red Bulls will play their final exhibition match and open the new stadium next Saturday against Santos FC of Brazil. Barring a strike, New York's first MLS game in the stadium will be the following Saturday against Chicago.
The MLS and players' union are in mediation over a new collective bargaining agreement. The season is scheduled to begin March 25.
