Octopus Paul predicts German win over England

Jun 25, 2010 - 1:59 PM BERLIN(AP) -- You've heard of Punxsutawney Phil. Now meet Paul the Octopus.

The creature lives at the Sea Life Aquarium in the German city of Oberhausen, and when there's a big German soccer game, people at the aquarium have Paul pick the winner.

With Germany playing England in the round of 16 at the World Cup, the aquarium thought this was a perfect time. It turns out that though Paul lives in Germany, he was born in England.

On Friday, Paul chose a mussel out of a glass marked with the German flag over a mussel in a glass with the English St. George's Cross.

Aquarium spokeswoman Tanja Munzig says that means Germany will win.

Munzig also says that during the 2008 European Championship, he predicted 80 percent of all German games right.
