Mexico edges Colombia 1-0 on late goal
Sep 8, 2010 - 4:05 AM MONTERREY, Mexico (AP) -- Elias Hernandez scored in the 89th minute, lifting Mexico over Colombia 1-0 Tuesday night in an otherwise a lackluster exhibition.Hernandez scored from 15 yards to give El Tri its first victory in three matches since the World Cup.
Mexico played a 1-1 tie last month with World Cup champion Spain under interim coach Enrique Meza. Efrain Flores coached El Tri in Saturday's 2-1 loss to Ecuador and Tuesday's victory. Neither is a candidate to replace Javier Aguirre, who resigned after Mexico was eliminated by Argentina in the second round of the World Cup.
Colombia defeated Venezuela 2-0 on Saturday.
