Ajax goalkeeper Vermeer hit with two-match ban
Apr 8, 2013 - 4:41 PM Amsterdam, Netherlands (Sports Network) - Ajax goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer will miss the crucial showdown with PSV Eindhoven this weekend after he received a two-match suspension following his red card against Heracles on Sunday.Vermeer was sent off in the 48th minute of the 4-0 win after he brought down Geoffrey Castillion, earning himself an automatic one-game suspension.
However, the ban was extended to two matches on Monday, meaning that Vermeer will not only miss the crucial fixture against PSV, but also the following contest with Heerenveen.
The 27-year-old will likely be replaced by Jasper Cillessen for Sunday's crunch contest, which sees Ajax enter the weekend three points clear of PSV at the top of the league with five games to play.
