Nine-man PSG holds off Evian
Apr 28, 2013 - 9:41 PM Annecy, France (Sports Network) - PSG managed to maintain its lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table on Sunday, overcoming two red cards to earn a 1-0 victory at Evian. After a scoreless first half, PSG wasted no time in breaking the deadlock from the restart as Javier Pastore guided a pass from Jeremy Menez into the back of the net from the right side of the penalty area.
PSG managed to hold the one-goal advantage, but its task was made more difficult when Marco Verratti was sent off nine minutes from time.
David Beckham entered the match as Verratti's replacement, but the English midfielder also saw red as he was issued his marching orders in the third minute of stoppage time.
It ultimately made no difference as PSG held on for the win, restoring the club's nine-point lead atop the Ligue 1 table.
Evian has lost two straight matches to remain above the relegation zone solely on goal difference.
Also on Sunday, Nice overturned a one-goal deficit to take all three points with a 3-1 defeat of Troyes while Kurt Zouma and Yoann Gourcuff exchanged goals on opposite sides of halftime in St. Etienne's 1-1 draw with Lyon.
