San Jose's Chavez has ban reduced

May 15, 2013 - 5:29 PM New York, NY (Sports Network) - MLS commissioner Don Garber has reduced the suspension of San Jose Earthquakes forward Marvin Chavez from two games to one after hearing an appeal.

Chavez was originally handed a two-match ban for violent conduct in a game against Toronto FC on May 8.

But Garber has decided to cut the ban to one match, which Chavez served by sitting out his team's 4-0 defeat to Seattle on Saturday.

The ruling means that Chavez will be available to feature in San Jose's upcoming contest against Colorado this weekend, while the MLS Disciplinary Committee handed out suspensions to four other players.

Vancouver's Johnny Leveron, Mario De Luna of Chivas USA, Colorado's Edson Buddle and Real Salt Lake's Kwame Watson-Siriboe each received one-game suspensions for their actions over the weekend.

Leveron, Buddle and Watson-Siriboe will each miss their team's upcoming game this weekend, while De Luna will miss Sunday's game against Real Salt Lake because of yellow card accumulation, meaning that his latest one-game ban will be served the following weekend against Colorado on May 25.
