Lampard signs extension with Chelsea
May 16, 2013 - 5:12 PM London, England (Sports Network) - Frank Lampard has signed a one-year contract extension with Chelsea, the Premier League club announced Thursday. The news comes one day after the club's 2-1 triumph over Benfica in the UEFA Europa League, Lampard's ninth major trophy with Chelsea.
"I'm absolutely delighted," Lampard told the club's official website. "Everybody knows I always maintained the dream was to stay at Chelsea. We've been talking for ages and even though it went on for quite a period it was always amicable.
"I want to thank (owner Roman Abramovich) for everything he's done in making the dream a reality. I love this club, the staff, the players and especially the supporters, who have treated me fantastically since the day I arrived. The thought of helping the club to more success in the forthcoming years is all I ever wanted. I couldn't be happier."
Lampard joined the Blues from West Ham in 2001 and has gone on to become Chelsea's all-time leading scorer with 203 goals for the club. During his time at Stamford Bridge, the 35-year-old has racked up three Premier League titles, four FA Cup titles and one Champions League crown, which was achieved last season.
