L.A. acquires Rogers; Magee heads to Chicago
May 25, 2013 - 10:28 PM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Galaxy announced Saturday that the club has acquired midfielder Robbie Rogers from the Chicago Fire in exchange for Mike Magee.Rogers announced his retirement from soccer in February after coming out as gay. The 26-year-old had been training with the Galaxy in recent months as the club searched for a way to make a deal with Chicago happen, and an agreement has been reached as the reigning MLS Cup champions signed the winger with Magee heading in the opposite direction.
"I'd like to thank everyone at Major League Soccer, the L.A. Galaxy and the Chicago Fire for allowing me to return to playing the game that I love," Rogers said. "I look forward to getting back out onto the field and continuing my soccer career as a member of the Galaxy."
Rogers spent five seasons with the Columbus Crew, where he netted 13 goals with 16 assists in 106 regular season matches, while also helping Columbus win the MLS Cup in 2008.
The 28-year-old Magee arrives in Chicago after playing the past five seasons with the Galaxy.
Magee tallied 19 goals and 11 assists in 105 regular season appearances for Los Angeles, while he also played six seasons in New York, netting 23 goals with 13 assists in 130 regular season matches.
