Santana swaps Dortmund for Schalke
May 28, 2013 - 4:16 PM Gelsenkirchen, Germany (Sports Network) - Felipe Santana has completed a switch from Borussia Dortmund to Schalke, it was announced Tuesday. The Brazilian defender submitted a transfer request earlier this week and Dortmund complied by agreeing to an undisclosed fee with Schalke.
"We would like to thank him for five fantastic, successful years and we wish him all the best for his personal future," said Dortmund director of sport Michael Zorc.
Santana, 27, has logged 95 appearances in Bundesliga play and recorded six goals, but he has been behind Neven Subotic and Mats Hummels in the pecking order for the center of Dortmund's defense.
"We are very pleased that Felipe Santana has opted for Schalke," said the club's director of sport Horst Heldt. "He is known for his aggressive tackling, his reliability and his danger in front of goal, while he has known the Bundesliga for five years."
