Union's McInerney earns second straight Player of the Month award
May 31, 2013 - 7:32 PM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Philadelphia Union striker Jack McInerney was named the MLS Player of the Month on Friday, earning his second consecutive Player of the Month award.McInerney is currently tied with Montreal's Marco Di Vaio for the league lead in goals with nine and he leads the league in match-winning tallies with five.
After netting game winning goals in consecutive weeks against the Chicago Fire and another against the Montreal Impact last Saturday, he set new single- season franchise records in game-winning goals (four) and road goals (six).
The honor marks just the third time in league history that a player has won back-to-back Player of the Month honors.
The award is selected each month of the regular season by journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters.
Following are the 2013 MLS Player of the Month winners:
March: Mike Magee (Los Angeles Galaxy)
April: Jack McInerney (Philadelphia Union)
May: Jack McInerney (Philadelphia Union)
