Phoenix move A-League games to more cities

Jun 20, 2013 - 1:10 AM The Wellington Phoenix will take home matches to New Zealand cities Napier and Christchurch next A-League season.

The Phoenix will host the Newcastle Jets at McLean Park in the North Island city of Napier in a round-three fixture on October 27.

They will then play their round-five match against Perth Glory at AMI Stadium in Christchurch.

Phoenix general manager David Dome says many fans have asked the club to stage a game in Napier during Labour weekend to coincide with the annual national under-19 tournament in the city.

He says being able to find a partner - a consortium led by Napier businessman Tim Claudatos - has now made this possible.

The Phoenix have played in Christchurch before and could have one game a season there for the next three seasons if the scheduled allows.

"Our past games in Christchurch have been excellent," Dome said.

"We wanted to show our support for the Garden City as the rebuild gets under way."
