Ecuador player closes Twitter after abuse
Jun 18, 2014 - 1:29 AM Ecuador midfielder Michael Arroyo closed his Twitter account Tuesday after fans blamed him for his country's defeat against Switzerland and insulted him on the social network."Stop writing, because I'm about to close it. You'll have to keep your messages," Arroyo wrote.
In the 93rd minute of Sunday's match against Switzerland, with the score 1-1, Arroyo, who had just come on as a substitute, entered the Swiss box and missed what looked like an easy shot.
Arroyo, 27, who plays for Mexican club Atlante, then became the target of Ecuadorian fans' frustrations.
