Divorce for Barcelona striker Henry
Sep 3, 2007 - 1:27 PM By John Aston Special to PA SportsTickerLONDON (Ticker) - Barcelona striker Thierry Henry's estranged English wife, Claire Merry, was granted a quickie divorce on Monday.
The order was made by a District Judge at the Principal Registry of the High Court's Family Division in central London amid speculation that the 30-year-old former Arsenal striker could face the biggest ever divorce payment by a footballer.
Merry, 27, a model and mother of their two-year-old daughter, Tea, is expected to be entitled to a large part of the Barca star's fortune, estimated at $50 million.
The couple shared a six-bedroom home in Hampstead, north London, which he bought five years ago for $12 million while playing for Premier League Arsenal.
They met when they starred together in television ads for Renault Clio cars.
France striker Henry announced he was leaving Claire in June, just before his transfer to Barcelona, where he is reportedly paid $260,000 a week.
