Donovan earns MLS Player of the Week honor again
Sep 8, 2014 - 7:31 PM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Los Angeles Galaxy forward Landon Donovan was named the Player of the Week on Monday for Week 26 of the 2014 Major League Soccer season.Donovan claimed his second consecutive Player of the Week award and third this season for his exceptional two-goal, two-assist performance on Friday in the Galaxy's 6-0 drubbing of the Colorado Rapids at the StubHub Center.
Donovan's first goal of the night came from the penalty spot in the 5th minute after a red card was issued to Rapids goalkeeper Joe Nasco. Donovan stepped and hit the ball dead center as Clint Irwin dove the other way.
His second goal came in the 47th minute again from the penalty spot as the savvy veteran took a short run up and slotted the ball into the lower right corner of the goal to put the Galaxy up 4-0.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North America Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
