Cronin joins Rapids in trade from San Jose

Jan 19, 2015 - 9:08 PM Commerce City, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rapids continued their makeover in midfield on Monday as the club acquired Sam Cronin from the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for allocation money.

Cronin spent the past four-and-a-half seasons with the Earthquakes, scoring five goals with 12 assists in 140 games for the club.

The 28-year-old began his six-year MLS career with Toronto FC after being selected with the second overall pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, and he made 33 appearances for TFC before being traded to San Jose in midseason.

Cronin joins the Rapids on the same day that midfielder Jose Mari left the club to return to Spain to play for Levante.

Mari spent one season in Colorado, scoring four goals with one assist in 20 starts, while the Rapids have already added former Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Marcelo Sarvas this month.
