Del Piero signs new deal with Juventus

Oct 17, 2007 - 2:01 PM TURIN, Italy (Ticker) -- Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero signed a two-year contract extension Wednesday that will likely see him finish his career at the Turin club.

Del Piero, Juve's all-time leading goalscorer, has been with club since 1993 - his entire Serie A career - and is now tied to the outfit until June 2010.

The new contract ends speculation about Del Piero's immediate future, and any chance that the former Italy international and World Cup winner will move to Major League Soccer - where he had been linked with Toronto FC in recent days.

"Today I have undertaken a decisive choice in my career and my life," said 32-year-old Del Piero, whose wife is expecting their first child. "Juventus has given me so much and it is here where I wish to continue to win.

"I share a project which I am confident will help us return to give great satisfaction to our fans."

Juve president Cobolli Gigli admitted to his delight at the deal.

"We are extremely satisfied," he said. "This agreement consolidates our trusting relationship with a great champion.

"Del Piero represents our values and our projects. Throughout his career he has always given passion and professionalism while honoring with great performances our colors. I am certain he will be crucial in the coming years."
