NEWCASTLE, England (Ticker) - Newcastle United on Wednesday night parted company with manager Sam Allardyce.

The move comes less than eight months after Allardyce replaced Glenn Roeder.

The 53-year-old, who earlier conducted his pre-match news conference for Saturday's game against Manchester United, left St. James' park by mutual consent on Wednesday night.

"I am disappointed to be leaving Newcastle United, but I wish the club all the best for the remainder of the season and for the future," Allardyce said.

Newcastle chairman Chris Mort also issued a statement.

"(Club owner) Mike (Ashley) and I would like to place on record our thanks for Sam's efforts and wish him well for the future," the statement read. "A new manager has not yet been appointed at Newcastle United. We will make a further announcement on the managerial position when appropriate."

In the 20-team Premiership, Newcastle United is 11th place with 26 points. The club has lost its last three games, managing just one goal.
