The win brought an end a run of two straight defeats for Villarreal which had all but ended their title hopes.

Sergio struck a controversial winner from the penalty spot in the 65th minute as Depor made it nine victories from their last 13 matches.

Levante, who were rocked this week by the departure of Italian coach Gianni De Biasi, have cut the gap to 17th-placed Real Zaragoza to 12 points.
Getafe, meanwhile, stay in 13th, just four points clear of the relegation zone.
Dani Guiza bagged a hat-trick as Real Mallorca condemned lowly Real Murcia to a 4-1 home defeat.
Spain striker Guiza struck after seven minutes to give Gregorio Manzano's side the lead and Juan Arango added a second for the visitors shortly afterward.
Guiza scored twice more in the second half to seal a fine win for the islanders before Baiano's late consolation.
The result ensured Murcia remained second bottom, eight points from safety, and moved Mallorca up to 11th.
In Sunday's late kickoff, Athletic Bilbao heaped the pressure on under-fire Valencia coach Ronald Koeman after romping to a 5-1 victory.
Aguinaga Javi Martinez and a Fernando Llorente brace put the hosts 3-0 in front before David Villa's goal 16 minutes from time sparked hopes of a comeback for Valencia.
Andoni Iraola and substitute Aritz Aduriz though both netted in the final five minutes to leave Koeman's side just two points clear of the drop zone and move Bilbao to within five of a European spot.
