Ronaldo ashamed of incident

May 5, 2008 - 4:43 AM RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (Ticker) - Brazilian striker Ronaldo fears he made a mistake which will haunt him for the remainder of his days.

Six days removed from his encounter with transvestites in Rio de Janeiro, the three-time FIFA World Player of the Year and AC Milan superstar admitted that he is ashamed of his actions.

"I've done something really stupid in my personal life," Ronaldo said on Sunday during an interview with Brazil's Globo television.

"We are all subject to making mistakes and I made a mistake in looking for this. I did not, at any moment, know they were transvestites. I cried a lot afterwards. I was incredibly ashamed."

Sidelined from soccer due to a knee injury, Ronaldo admitted that he met the prostitutes but did not discover that they were transvestites until after joining them at a motel.

"My conscience is still heavy with that stupid act, in a late-night, arriving at home," Ronaldo said.

He declined any sexual contact or drug use with the tranvestites.

Prostitution is legal in Brazil.
