Revs acquire D Phelan from Toronto
Jun 4, 2008 - 4:58 PM FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- The New England Revolution on Wednesday acquired rookie defender Patrick Phelan from Toronto FC.Phelan was selected with the 10th overall pick in this year's draft by Toronto, which acquired the rights to one of New England's eight international roster spots through 2010 as a part of Wednesday's trade.
Phelan, 23, has not played for Toronto yet this season, although he did start in three of the team's reserve-division matches.
"We are pleased to be able to add Pat to our squad," said Michael Burns, the Revolution's director of soccer. "We followed his (collegiate) career closely at Wake Forest, and we're looking forward to him joining us."
A Connecticut native, Phelan helped Team USA secure a berth to the FIFA Youth Championship in 2005.
