SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- Real Salt Lake waived midfielder Matias Cordoba on Wednesday.
Cordoba was on loan from Argentina Primera Division side Club Atletico Tigre, which holds the contract with MLS that will be terminated if the 23-year-old clears waivers.
"Anytime a player leaves his home country to come to the United States and play for Real Salt Lake, we have to respect his courage in accepting the challenge of playing in a foreign environment," RSL general manager Garth Lagerwey said. "We thank Matias for his unflagging hard work and dedication to our team during his time here and wish him the best as he moves on in his career."
Cordoba totaled 173 minutes in seven appearances with Real Salt Lake. He was an important part of the club's MLS Reserve Division side, scoring five goals and recording three assists in four games.
