WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- D.C. United added a goalkeeper Friday, signing Louis Crayton to a contract.
Terms were not disclosed.
The 30-year-old Crayton spent the last 11 years in the Swiss league, most recently with FC Basel, which he helped to the league title last season and the Swiss Cup in both 2007 and 2008.
"It is a great honor for me to be selected to play for D.C. United," Crayton said. "I look forward to being a part of the D.C. United family and to representing the club to the best of my ability."
Prior to playing in Switzerland, Crayton appeared in 33 matches over two seasons with Liberia's Saint Joseph Warriors, debuting with the club at the age of 19.
United also waived rookie midfielder Dan Stratford on Friday. Selected in the second round of this year's draft, the Brit appeared in five games with the team this season.
"We would like to thank Dan for his time spent at D.C. United, and we wish him the best of luck moving forward," United general manager Dave Kasper said.
