NEW YORK (Ticker) -- New York Red Bulls defender Gabriel Cichero was suspended one game and fined $250 by MLS on Wednesday for his actions in a game this past weekend against Toronto FC.
The penalties stem from New York's 2-0 victory on Sunday when, in the 46th minute, Cichero elbowed Toronto's Danny Dichio in the head. Cichero was given a red card while Dichio left the game and did not return.
Cichero will miss next Sunday's game against the Houston Dynamo. The 24-year-old Venezuelan signed with the Red Bulls two weeks ago and has appeared in their last two games.
