Transfer of Bradley to Bundesliga completed

Sep 1, 2008 - 4:23 PM MONCHENGLADBACH, Germany (Ticker) -- Borussia Monchengladbach has completed the signing of midfielder Michael Bradley after the American passed his physical on Monday.

The 21-year-old Bradley signed a four-year deal with the promoted Bundesliga squad after joining it from Dutch outfit Heerenveen.

Monchengladbach coach Jos Luhukay had been looking to strengthen his side to avoid an immediate return to the second division.

"He is strong in combination play and makes important runs off the ball," Luhukay said about the new addition. "Michael is also a goal threat from midfield."

Bradley traveled to Germany on Monday, having already agreed to terms with Monchengladbach. The two clubs agreed on an undisclosed fee on Saturday night, but Bradley remained with Heerenveen for its league fixture with Volendam on Sunday.

Bradley's arrival brings the number of Monchengladbach players with Dutch League experience to six.

"We know this league and its players best," Dutchman Luhukay said. "We have a very positive picture of Michael."

"I know that Borussia has a great history and superb fans," Bradley said. "I can help out in attacking and defensive midfield and want to display my fighting qualities."

Bradley, who scored an impressive 15 goals in 33 games for Heerenveen last season, has made 22 appearances for the USA national team, including at the Beijing Olympics.

The American could make his Bundesliga debut against Hannover on September 14 after he returns from international duty with the USA.
