Hurricane Gustav changes venue for World Cup qualifier
Sep 2, 2008 - 1:16 AM MEXICO CITY (Ticker) -- Jamaica's World Cup qualifier against Mexico on Saturday has been switched from Kingston to Mexico City's Estadio Azteca after the Jamaican capital was hit by Hurricane Gustav.Jamaica will now host Mexico at the National Stadium in Kingston on October 11 following a decision from the Jamaican Football Association, CONCACAF and FIFA.
"After several talks with the Jamaican FA, CONCACAF and FIFA as well as the Jamaican government, and after a deep analysis of the city of Kingston and the stadium after hurricane Gustav, it was decided that there are no suitable conditions to play this match in Jamaica on Saturday," Mexican Football Association secretary general Decio De Maria said.
"We believe in fair play and when a disaster occurs, we must bring our support."
