FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- New England Revolution forward Adam Cristman, who is tied for the team lead in goals, will undergo season-ending toe surgery, the team announced Wednesday.
Cristman will undergo surgery on his right big toe Thursday at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Cristman, who has six goals on the season, originally sprained his toe late in the 2007 campaign, then aggravated the injury during a call-up to the U.S. Under-23 team in January. He had played the entire season with the injury.
"Adam has been in pain for much of the season, but played through it as we has other injuries to our team," Revolution vice president of personnel Michael Burns said. "His pain became so severe that Adam could not continue to play any longer."
New England (11-6-5) is in second place in the Eastern Conference, two points behind Columbus.
