LAUSANNE, Switzerland (Ticker) -- Brazilian striker Dodo on Thursday received a two-year suspension after the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld his original suspension for doping.
While still a Botafogo player last year, Dodo returned a positive result for the amphetamine fenpropex during a routine test on June 14, following a game against Vasco de Gama.
However, the player successfully appealed against a ban before Brazil's highest sporting court, the Superior Tribunal de Justica Desportiva do Futebol, relying on evidence supplied by Botafogo that the test was a result of contaminated caffeine capsules.
FIFA and the World Anti-Doping Agency both appealed against that finding, and on Thursday CAS found in their favor.
"The CAS found that the objective presence of fenpropex in the player's urine samples constituted an anti-doping rule violation and that, on the balance of probability, the player did not discharge the burden of proving how the prohibited substance entered his body nor was he able to demonstrate that he bore no significant fault or negligence," a statement from CAS said.
Dodo's ban has been backdated and adjusted for time already served, and will run until November 7, 2009, but the 34-year-old's career appears to be over.
He had already had his contract with Fluminense cancelled last month after he left the stadium early when he was substituted in a game against Sport.
