Chivas USA picks up two veterans on deadline day

Sep 15, 2008 - 11:32 PM CARSON, California (Ticker) -- Chivas USA made a pair of last-minute roster moves on Monday, acquiring midfielder Sasha Victorine and signing fellow midfielder Dejair.

Monday is Major League Soccer's roster freeze date, the last day of the season that teams can add players to their rosters. The club acquired Victorine from the Kansas City Wizards in exchange for allocation money, and signed Dejair as an international player from Natal's ABC FC, a Brazilian club.

"As we enter the last six weeks of the season, we are pleased to be adding some additional depth to our midfield in the face of injury and international call-ups," Chivas USA coach Preki said.

Chivas USA (8-10-6) is still vying for a playoff spot in the Western Conference, currently sitting in a third-place tie with the Colorado Rapids (9-12-3) with 30 points - with six games remaining in the regular season.

Victorine started 12 of 16 games for Kansas City this season, registering three goals and eight assists. In 227 career matches, he has 30 goals and 39 assists. Dejair led ABC FC to the 2008 Rio Grande do Norte state championship.

In a pair of other moves, Chivas also placed midfielder Raphael Wicky (right ankle surgery), defender Lawson Vaughn (left ankle) and defender Eric Ebert (lateral meniscus tear in left knee) on the season-ending injury list.
