Earthquakes-Dynamo match on Saturday postponed
Sep 17, 2008 - 11:02 PM HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Saturday's match between the San Jose Earthquakes and Houston Dynamo was postponed and rescheduled for Wednesday, October 15.The decision to postpone the match was made after city officials emphasized the logistical difficulties and public safety threat posed by a sporting event taking place in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, which decimated much of the Gulf Coast last weekend.
"At this time, we have more important things to worry about than the game," San Jose executive vice president David Alioto said. "The organization's thoughts and prayers are with the Houston community during this difficult time."
The hurricane canceled many sporting events in the area, including an NFL game between the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens, which was rescheduled for November 9 at Reliant Stadium.
