Chivas midfielder Victorine out 2-4 weeks with knee sprain

Oct 22, 2008 - 1:53 AM CARSON, California (Ticker) -- Chivas USA announced on Tuesday that midfielder Sasha Victorine will likely miss two to four weeks after suffering a sprained left knee during Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Colorado Rapids.

Victorine, an eight-year MLS veteran acquired by Chivas from the Kansas City Wizards in September, was taken out of the game in the 25th minute. He underwent an MRI on Monday, revealing the sprain.

The 6-2, 170-pound midfielder is expected to be unavailable when the playoffs open up next week. Chivas (12-11-6) has clinched a postseason berth and will close the regular season on Saturday against the Houston Dynamo.

Victorine has enjoyed a successful career since being drafted by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the first round of the 2000 SuperDraft out of UCLA. In 232 career games, including 209 starts, he has collected 32 goals and 40 assists.

Chivas also announced that defender Lawson Vaughn underwent successful surgery on his left ankle to repair a torn ligament and remove bone spurs. He was placed on the team's season-ending injury list on September 15 - the same day Victorine was acquired from Kansas City - and is expected to be out of commission for about six months.
